The Spirituality of the Paschal Mystery

First released in May, 2003. Today, over 1,500 CD's are circulating. We have presented this Paschal Mystery Reflection Day in Parishes throughout the city of Ottawa and in Cornwall and Gatineau.  
 
The Spirituality of the Paschal Mystery CD is 75 minutes of meditative teaching on the six distinct moments in the spiritual journey that Jesus - and all of us - must pass through. You will be guided through the meaning and mystery of each of these moments: Suffering, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, 40 days, Ascension, Pentecost. You can listen to each track (10-12 minutes) several times for your own meditation and/or use for small group prayer gatherings.

Spanish CD on The Spirituality of the Paschal Mystery

Spanish CD launched in February, 2007.  500 CD's circulating.

Isabel Petien, an Ottawa teacher, completed the translation of this CD into Spanish. During Christmas week we were in studio doing the recording. The CD began circulating during Lent 2007. We would be happy to see it distributed by "willing friends and disciples of the Good News" in as many countries as possible. Arrangements can be made for consignment shipping. Year One:

In 2008-2009 Sister Rosemary O'Toole posted a new Lesson every Sunday for 52 weeks of the year. All the Lessons are archived and you can access them at any time from your own home. Print out the Lessons with 10-12 pages to read and reflect upon during the week. All the members are invited to respond to the Weekly Questions by sharing in the online forum. At the close of YEAR ONE we were 1,107 members registered. We began a CHAT FORUM for the first Sunday of every month and these are archived online also. Join us at any time...

We invite new members to join us online this year and returning members to catch up with the Lessons that they may wish to continue throughout this year. No need to rush through the Lessons. We will keep checking for 'new posts'. We value the input and wisdom of our online community. It's been an awesome journey to share with this many dedicated seekers from 26 different countries around the world.

Pass on this web site link to your friends if you think they might be interested. All the members will be able to access any of the Lessons at any time. Everyone is invited to post a comment on any Lesson or in response to a post by another member. We will continue with the MONTHLY CHAT FORUM … meeting online for two hours on the first Sunday of every month. Members can suggest topics.

This year you are invited to participate in The Living Word  forum that is accessed from our Home page. Sr. Rosemary will post a weekly Scripture reflection and invite comments and further sharing on the Word. Our communal ministry of contemplation is a profound action for the healing of the world community.

Wonderful news!  Arrived at our Home of Prayer in June, 2011.  The Medaille Course now published! Thanks to the vision and generosity of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery in Oslo, Norway, we now have the Medaille Online Course translated into Norwegian and published in these beautifully library boxed four volumes.

Set of 4 books on Medaille Spirituality now published... The complete Medaille Spirituality Course  has now been translated into Norwegian. Thanks to the generosity of the Chambery Sisters of St. Joseph of  both the Norwegian and Danish provinces, we now have these FOUR beautifully published set of library boxed books. Grateful for the many artworks of Sr. Mary Southard, that enhance the beauty of its pages.

The Man  

Jean-Pierre Medaille was born in Carcassonne, France in 1610. At a young age he joined the Jesuit Order and was considered to be "gifted with a sublime knowledge of the interior life." While he was working as a missionary - preaching retreats and renewals around the parishes in southwestern France  - he began meeting with many devout women who expressed their desire to live holy lives and serve their neighbours in charitable service without becoming cloistered nuns.

It was under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that he founded the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1650 in Le Puy, France. Bishop deMaupas granted the new congregation canonical status - one of the first apostolic religious life forms to emerge in the 17th Century.

From a small beginning of just six women, this spiritual movement has grown through its 360+ year history to become a global congregation of almost 14,000 Sisters. Many associates, Little Designers and colleagues share in this magnificent charism and are still active today circling the world - in some 55 countries - spreading LOVE in their local communities and neighbourhoods. God is the Source of all unifying and reconciling love. One of our favourite daily mantras:

A Unique Prophetic Community Vision

As early as 1646, Jean-Pierre encouraged some devout women to gather together into several communities, meeting 'secretly' in small groups of 3-6 women so as to protect their spirit of littleness, hiddenness and self-emptying love. Quietly, they  set to work with zeal to live lives of prayer and active service to the most needy in their midst.

He wrote an inspired text which he called The Eucharistic Letter (dated 1660) in which he speaks of "perhaps in time, there will be a congregation without being a congregation, a religious order, without being a religious order..." In the Letter he calls their way of life "The Little Design" and encouraged these small groupings of women to follow his spiritual maxims. Fr. Medaille is the beloved founder for all congregations of Sisters of St. Joseph.    

The Eucharistic Letter is a treasured spiritual legacy. Its prophetic inspiration still challenges us today! Today, many Christians are seeking a way of life centered in Christ and the Gospels, supported by faith-filled companions who share the same desire of becoming great lovers of God. His mystical vision of being a "congregation of great lovers of God" living outside the cloister, has animated and inspired the spirituality and ministry of our Upper Room Home of Prayer throughout the years.
